Most dogs love to run free on the beach, but with summer here and with many beaches with dog restrictions between 1st May – 30th September, here is a list of beaches and river walks you can run free with your four legged friend during your stay here at Constable Holiday Lodges.

HARKESTED BEACH (8 miles | 20 mins)

There are no dog restrictions for the whole of the Holbrook Bay Area

NACTON BEACH (Nacton village) | Ipswich (13 miles | 20 mins)

At low tide you can walk on the shingle beach for miles and enjoy the wonderful views of the Orwell and at high tide you can wander on the low cliffs in the woodland.

Alternatively if you park at the Levington Ship Inn, you can walk along the river and return back to the pub for lunch.

PIN MILL | IPSWICH (14 miles | 20 mins)

There are varied walks from Pin Mill along the estuary and perfect to lunch at The Butt and Oyster.

DOVERCOURT NORTH EAST (15 miles | 25 mins)

From Mill Lane subway to the end of the promenade at Spa Cabins

DOVERCOURT SOUTH WEST (15 miles | 25 mins)

From the slipway south west of the swimming pool, to the upper Lighthouse, south west of Beach Road.

IRLAMS BEACH | also known as ‘EARLHAMS’ | (16 miles | 25 mins)

Whilst Harwich is a popular spot to walk your do, Irlams beach just along the coast is virtually unknown and packed by dunes and marshes your dog will love it.

HARWICH (16 miles | 25 mins)

From the Coast Guard building at Outpart East, to Low lighthouse in front of Harbour Crescent

BRIGHTLINGSEA (18 miles | 25 mins)

From West Marsh Point covering the paddling pool area and both beaches east of the pool

OLD FELIXSTOWE (20 miles | 25 mins)

From the Spa Pavilion to Arwela Road

LANGUARD POINT FELIXSTOWE (20 miiles | 25 mins)

With a huge amount of space at low tide and amazing views of the docks both at Felixstowe and across the estuary to Harwich, its free parking and there is a lovely dog friendly cafe as well.

(dogs must be kept on a lead around the bird sanctuary area which is clearly signposted)

HOLLAND ON SEA SOUTH WEST (20 miles | 30 mins)

From the breakwater south west of Queensway to the cafe north west of Queensway

HOLLAND ON SEA NORTH EAST (20 miles | 30 mins)

From the cafe opposite Haven Avenue, for 3 sections of the beach south west.

CLACTON NORTH EAST (20 miles | 25 mins)

From opposite St Albans Road to Gunfleet Sailing Club which is opposite Hazelmere Road

CLACTON CENTRAL (20 miles | 25 mins)

From the Pier to West Road to the out-fall pipe on Martello Bay

RAMSHOLT (21 miles | 40 mins)

With stunning views and fantastic walks and the perfect spot for lunch too at the Ramsholt Arms looking out over the estuary.

FRINTON-ON-SEA (22 miles | 30 mins)

Dogs are allowed all year round at the Frinton Golf course end of the beach where the beach huts are on stilts (it’s the best bit of the beach as well)

From the seafront warden station below Connaught Avenue to the public conveniences below Cambridge Road.

WALTON ON THE NAZE (23 miles | 30 mins)

North east from Percival Road to Naze Park Road

WALTON ON THE NAZE CENTRAL (23 miles | 30 mins)

From the Pier to end of the Parade opposite Suffolk Street

FURTHER AFIELD BUT WORTH THE TRIP

DUNWICH (40 miles |55 mins)

Gorgeous shingle beach walks with a cafe and then a little walk from the beach to the ruins of a beautiful 12th Century Abbey.

COVEHITHE (50 miles | 1 hour)

Between Southwold and Lowestoft, Covehithe beach so beautiful it was recently included in The Daily Telegraph’s list of Britains 40 best beaches.

Only accessible by foot or bicycle, so you need to park by the church and walk your dog along the footpath to the beach. There are no facilities but its really popular with dog walkers because of its serene and secluded location.

WALBERSWICK (44 miles | 1 hour)

Best known for crabbing, surfing and Kite-flying and with its iconic black beach huts, cafes and a great dog friendly pub. Make your way through the sand dunes where dogs are allowed on the beach all year round.
